Sébastien Simon spoke with emotion to the microphone of RMC Sport before the big start from Les Sables-d'Olonne of the Vendée Globe this Sunday. The separations were very emotional with his family… and his dog.
It's time for departure, tears and goodbyes. This Sunday, at 1:02 p.m. (to be continued on BFMTV), the 40 sailors competing for the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe will set off for the famous race around the world solo, non-stop and without assistance.

Before heading out to sea, cheered by nearly 500,000 people, the competitors are all invited to descend the legendary Sables-d'Olonne channel, whose quays were already crowded well before sunrise. With sailors sometimes having to deal with very emotional separations from their loved ones.
He planned to send her voice messages
Speaking to RMC Sport, Sébastien Simon had a hard time hiding his emotion a few hours before the start: “I want to share these last moments with my family, my team and my partners who are all there on the pontoon. We don't have much time to say goodbye. It's been a hectic night when we leave like this for a trip around the world and leave our comfort behind, these are very difficult times. sea so that the emotions are behind me.”
“I said at the opening of the village that I wanted to enjoy these emotions like a spectator and I got caught in my own game a bit,” said the Vendée skipper, sponsored by the Dubreuil group, who was forced to abandon his first Vendée Globe a year ago due to excessive damage to his boat.
“It’s been three days that I’ve been having trouble containing all my emotions. But it’s also very beautiful,” added the 34-year-old sailor, particularly moved by the idea of being separated for several weeks… from his Chiffon female dog. “It's ridiculous to cry over a dog… But yes, she's at home. I'll see her again in two and a half months. I'll send her 'voices' (voice messages, Editor's note), like I did on the first Vendée”, he said, on the verge of tears.
