Les Sables-d’Olonne Vendée Globe. Philippe de Villiers and Bruno Retailleau: a reunion in the form of reconciliation

The story, the crisis, the storm are known throughout Vendée.
Philippe de Villiers became President of the General Council of Vendée in October 1988.
We will not return here to the ins and outs of a serious crisis between Philippe de Villiers and his right-hand man at the time, notably at Puy du Fou, Bruno Retailleau.
Philippe de Villiers will resign from the presidency of the General Council of Vendée on September 30, 2010 and Bruno Retailleau will become his successor.
It was 14 years ago. And since then, tensions have persisted.

Sunday November 10, 2024: the start of the 10th edition of the Vendée Globe 2024.
A Vendée Globe that both supported and developed during their mandate.

Philippe de Villiers and Bruno Retailleau are present on the Vendée Globe pontoon this Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Philippe gives all his time to Puy du Fou and regularly publishes political or historical works. For some time now, he has appeared once a week in a dedicated opinion show on CNews, during which he conveys his feelings and ideas on and its future.
Bruno Retailleau recently became Minister of the Interior, his wish for a long time because he wants to put into practice, through law, his ideas on many points including that on the problem of immigration is not the lesser. Bruno Retailleau was previously a senator and president of the group of senators Les Républicains.

On certain issues, their ideas come together, such as their desire to support, whatever the cost, the Vendée, this Vendée that they both cherish.
The Vendée Globe is just one part of the achievements that they have supported to facilitate the development of this department.
So, they have every right to meet on the Vendée Globe pontoon to greet the 40 skippers of this offshore race created by Philippe Jeantot in 1989, and which has become legendary thanks to the action of everyone.

On the departure pontoon then in the reception room, finally before boarding for the bay of Sables d'Olonne and the 1:02 p.m. departure, they chat, hug each other, promise to see each other again.
A reunion in the form of reconciliation. The magic of the Vendée Globe has worked.

Philippe de Villiers:
Bruno and I, “ We did everything together in Vendée, so I was very, very happy that we could meet here on the pontoon of the Vendée Globe because it was an adventure that we experienced together, sometimes a challenge in fact. , and we remembered our memories. And I congratulated him for what he's doing. He does what he has to do and he does it well. Bruno has found his direction!«

A milestone which will undoubtedly be as delicate for Bruno Retailleau as Cape Horn is when it roars and which the 40 skippers who have just left Sables-d'Olonne have decided to cross for the 2024 Vendée Globe.
