The new version of the tramway makes people happy in Lairet and Charlesbourg | Quebec Tram

On Thursday, by announcing that he would move forward with the first phase of the tramway, Prime Minister François Legault took part of the project out of the hands of the residents of Maizerets and gave it to those of Lairet and Charlesbourg. Enough to disappoint the former and delight the latter.

Met by Radio-Canada two days later, Julie Poisson, vice-president of the Lairet neighborhood council, is jubilant.

: it was unexpected. We had lost hope a little”,”text”:”We are very, very happy with this outcome: it was unexpected. We had lost hope a little”}}”>We are very, very happy with this outcome: it was unexpected. We had lost hope a littleshe says.

Under the Labeaume administration, she was first promised a piece of tramway in her neighborhood. A few years later, the route was revised and postponed.

However, this week, Julie Poisson, like many of her fellow citizens, witnessed yet another twist: the tram will pass on the 1D Avenue, from Lairet to Charlesbourg, words of François Legault.

DAvenue, we were very, very disappointed”,”text”:”In 2018, when we lost our tram on 1reAvenue, we were very, very disappointed”}}”>In 2018, when we lost our tram on the 1D Avenue, we were very, very disappointedsays the vice-president.

With this first remodeled phase reminiscent of the initial project, the Lairet and Charlesbourg districts will now be entitled to the public transport megaproject. Excellent news, proclaims Julie Poisson.

DAvenue […]. Here, there is density, and people use public transit a lot, so the need is there”,”text”:”This is good news for our neighborhood. Recently arrived in the country, Jackie Djiadeu is optimistic about the arrival of the tramway very close to her new home.

I think of my brothers who have just arrived and who don’t have a car. Even for Quebecers who do not have a car, it is truly a salutary actshe believes.

Another citizen, Marie-Andrée Jacques, is of the same opinion: I think it will bring something very good for the community here, which does not necessarily have access to a car.

Disappointment in Maizerets

Between incomprehension and frustration, a few streets away, Martial Van Nest is plagued.

Although he is satisfied with the support given by the government to the project, the vice-president of the Maizerets neighborhood council is sad to see that the new route neglects his neighborhood in favor of the 1D Avenue.

It’s a big disappointment because it’s certain that it had a structuring side for our neighborhood.said the man.

The government’s constant changes of course in this matter also irritate him.

What’s a shame is that it develops cynicism. We no longer know if we can really believe this government which changes its mind according to the pollshe thunders.

Businesswoman Maude Desroches is also saddened by the government’s sudden 180-degree turn in this matter. The tram had to pass in front of his establishment, Maude Épicerie/Culinary laboratory, on Chemin de la Canardière.

The respite that I see is renovations that will not be done in front of my business […]but that’s the only positive point for me, because post-renovations, it would have been very interesting for the neighborhoodshe believes.

The decision of the CAQ government also pulls the rug out from under the feet of those who wanted to reduce pollution in Maizerets, thinks Mr. Van Nest.

% to 60% of pollution. It’s very disappointing”,”text”:”In the city center districts, we are the ones who have the most pollution. We are taking away a means of removing cars which contribute 50% to 60% of pollution. It’s very disappointing”}}”>In the downtown areas, we have the most pollution.
