INFO LE FIGARO – The accused, who came to visit his hospitalized father, could not stand the wait in the emergency room and allegedly assaulted a practitioner. An investigation into violence against a person responsible for a public service mission has been opened.
Friday November 8 around 10 p.m., a man was arrested by the police after attacking a doctor at the Bicêtre AP-HP hospital, in Val-de-Marne. The individual had gone to the emergency room to get news of his hospitalized father, explained to Figaro a police source.
Increase in the number of doctors attacked
According to our information, unhappy with the wait in the emergency room – considered too long for his liking – the individual attacked a practitioner. The suspect in question allegedly punched the white coat. The doctor then fell and injured his arm.
Contacted by Le Figarothe Créteil public prosecutor's office confirmed that a complaint had been filed and that the suspect had been arrested. His police custody is currently still in progress at the Kremlin-Bicêtre police station. A blatant investigation for “violence against a person entrusted with a public service mission” has also been, according to our information, open.
According to a survey published by Le Figaro in October, attacks on caregivers increased considerably: between January and December 2023, 1,581 doctors reported an attack, or more than 27% of members of the profession. Never has such a high rate been recorded by the Physician Safety Observatory.
