Attacks on passengers, staff, property and also on peace and quiet on Lyon transport are down over the whole of 2023 according to the Greater Lyon metropolitan area.
Good news welcomed by the metropolis. Crime within the TCL network is “at its lowest for several years” in 2023, according to the annual report of Sytral, the organizing authority for Lyon’s public transport, consulted by BFM Lyon this Friday, September 13.
“Attacks on travelers are decreasing by 26% after an initial drop in 2022 which already placed the level of attacks at its lowest level for several years,” the community said in a press release.
Bruno Bernard, president of Sytral and the Lyon metropolitan area, spoke on BFM Lyon this Friday evening about “the best figures in five years”.
“Whether it’s the figures from Sytral or the police, they both say the same thing: crime is decreasing,” insists the Ecologists representative.
0.26 passenger injuries per million trips
Taking into account the data collected on the transport networks and the rail network in the community, the Ministry of the Interior specifies that the TCL network experienced 0.26 passenger injuries per million journeys in 2023. The indicator was 0.37 in 2022.
“Compared to 1.34 for public transport networks in metropolitan areas with more than 250,000 inhabitants, i.e. almost four times less damage” in Lyon, writes Sytral.
In detail, attacks on agents (-16%), on property (-9% in total, including -26% for thefts from passengers), but also those aimed at disrupting the service (-14%) or even attacks on peace and quiet (-35%) are all indicators down in 2023 compared to 2022, again according to Sytral.
Figures which have been falling since the start of 2024, adds the TCL organizing authority.
