the essential
As in 2022, Pascal Levieux (LFI) will campaign in the 1st constituency of Gers under the “New Popular Front” flag. In the 2nd constituency, the Socialist Party nominated David Taupiac, an outgoing deputy who has already launched his campaign without joining the new left-wing alliance.

After four days of negotiations, the main left-wing parties (LFI, PS, EELV and PCF) reached an agreement for the legislative elections. They present a joint candidacy in each constituency under the label of the New Popular Front. In the first constituency of Gers, allocated to La France Insoumise, it is Pascal Levieux, as in 2022, who will defend the colors of the new left-wing alliance.

“We are experiencing a historic moment in the history of France with this new Popular Front, formed in record time: it took us three weeks for the Nupes, recalls the Lislois. After the sanction inflicted on his camp during the Europeans, Emmanuel Macron thought he was dividing the left, but it was rather the right that he succeeded in finishing off…”

For the left-wing candidate, the issue is now clear, with “two social projects” proposed: that of the new Popular Front and “the black or brown vision of the extreme right”. “The RN will not save anyone from precariousness. It is up to us to demonstrate that on a social level, it is the Bardella scam,” announces Pascal Levieux.

Towards a new Cazeneuve-Levieux duel in the second round? This year, Jean-Luc Yelma (RN) is banking more on a triangular one.

The Gersois Insoumis regrets the rapid progress of the National Rally in recent years made possible, according to him, “by Macronie”. And to cite the pension reform, that of unemployment insurance or even the vote on the immigration law: “The President of the Republic himself mentioned an unconstitutional law but called on the deputies to vote for it, as Besides, says Jean-René Cazeneuve…”

The first arrows are already released. Concerning the substitute who will accompany Pascal Levieux, the decision was not yet decided yesterday evening.

Taupiac: “I remain true to my values”

In the second constituency, allocated to the Socialist Party via the agreements of the new Popular Front, David Taupiac should, unless there is a last minute surprise like in 2022, have any significant competition on the left. He is the PS candidate, but the outgoing MP will not campaign under the banner of the new left alliance, as he already predicted in our columns at the start of the week.

“I have seen the agreements that have been made and they do not suit me. The prospect of seeing Jean-Luc Mélenchon become Prime Minister does not please me at all and I indicated to the PS that I will not be a candidate under the banner of the new Popular Front”, confirms the regional advisor. “I am leaving as in 2022, I remain faithful to my values, those from before my mandate as deputy and which I have continued to follow for two years, in defense of rurality, of a more just and equitable society. But I do not adhere to this current logic of blocks… not really homogeneous.”

Defense of the “Forgotten people of Ségur”, “counter-proposal on the pension reform”, opposition to the unemployment insurance reform “which the government wants to pass by decree”… David Taupiac hopes to have retained the confidence of the Gersois to reconnect with these fights at the start of the school year.

As during the last legislative elections, the former mayor of Saint-Clar is leading this campaign with Carole Rolando, elected opposition socialist in Eauze.
