Scandal in the supermarket biscuit section! Fingers, these legendary chocolate-coated sticks, have not been on sale in France for several months. Without a word of explanation of the multinational Mondelez International, which took over the English brand Cadbury in 2010 which had launched these famous cakes.
Contacted by Libération, the American multinational indicates that the Fingers have no longer been available since May 2024. But does not offer any further explanations for this disappearance.
This sudden withdrawal sparked the indignation of gourmands. And even the creation, on Thursday, November 7, of an online petition… with modest success so far. “These delicious chocolate-covered cookies were more than snacks for us, they were a tradition and a symbol of shared moments and pleasure”writes Manu Il Buongustaio, the author of the petition, who asks Mondelez to “ relaunch production of Cadbury Fingers ».
Already the controversy with the Figolu
Mondelez had already aroused the anger of many French people by modifying, in 2015, the Figolu recipe – these little fig cakes – and by only selling them in packs of five bars, with a higher price! But in 2019, a petition gathering 10,000 signatures resulted in the return of the “real” Figolu.
Coming back to the Fingers, it could bea competition problem. Mondelez International – which also owns LU, Oreo, Milka, Côte d’Or and Granola, no less! – perhaps wanted to stop the competition between Milka’s Choco Stiks and the Fingers, suggests Le Parisien.
