Vacant on January 1 when the resignation of socialist Cédric Roten will have taken effect, the union of Sainte-Croix is arousing desire. And rather three times than one. Meeting in an extraordinary general meeting this Saturday at Les Rasses, the PLR decided to run for the position by nominating Rachel Gueissaz.

Elected during the general elections in the spring of 2021, the archaeologist and historian by training then brought back a feminine note that the Sainte-Crix Executive had not known for twenty years. “I'm on the balcony of the Jura, before going into politics,” explains the woman who was instead planning to run for union office in two years. After taking the time to think about it, to talk about it with her family and with her employer, she finally decided to anticipate her plans by a few months.

The first woman union member in the town?

If she were to win this additional election which should be held at the beginning of February 2025, the current head of the Mobility and Energy departments would be the first female union member in the commune of Balcon du Jura.

But the forty-year-old will have a lot to do. Current vice-syndic, UDC national councilor Yvan Pahud came out of the woods several weeks ago already. “I immediately said I was available. I have time, desire. In short, the position interests me,” explains the man who joined the Executive in 2016.

A little over a year before the next municipal elections, we did not necessarily see things this way on the left. “I was also preparing for 2026,” notes socialist Sylvain Fasola. And the municipal Social Affairs instead imagined an arrangement between the municipals to finish the legislature without an official trustee. “We could have seen with the Canton if it was possible and worked with the vice-trustee as if he were a trustee,” he explains.

The PLR initiative has changed the situation. “For the Sainte-Crix electorate, it is therefore normal that a socialist candidate presents himself. And I also have the time and the desire.”

Applications must be officially submitted before December 30.
