A medieval tower in the Lot represents Occitanie at the Grand Prix du Patrimoine et du Tourisme Local

Luzech, a commune in Lot with 1,800 inhabitants located 1 hour 40 minutes from Toulouse, has been deploying incredible strength and determination for over a year to save its Tower. The proof, this renovation project is one of the 13 selected for the Grand Prix du Patrimoine et du Tourisme Local and thus represents, in itself, the Occitanie region. A first edition to safeguard local heritage organized by La Fondation du Patrimoine in partnership with Airbnb.

Necessary work on La Tour

In Quercy Blanc, in the heart of the famous Cahors vineyard, the village of Luzech is located on a peninsula, surrounded by the Lot river. At its peak, an imposing and majestic tower 24 meters high dominates, but today there is a lack of waterproofing of the upper terrace. Significant damage thus causing water infiltration into its structure (vault, floors and stairs, etc.) which requires its closure for obvious safety reasons.

On the work side, to make it accessible and become a real museum, it would be planned to add a staircase, several exhibition rooms and an opening in the tower to access its summit and enjoy the superb view.

Vote to save a remarkable site!

“The Grand Prix for local heritage and tourism organized with the Heritage Foundation is a fantastic opportunity to encourage the inhabitants of the 13 French regions to defend the preservation of a flagship site of their regional heritage! Throughout the month of June, we are counting on the mobilization of all French people, starting with our community of hosts and travelers, to defend the heritage of their region. See you on July 4 to discover the winning project.”, Clement Eurly, director! from Airbnb France.

This is why a group of passionate volunteers have been working for months to restore (or even save) the Luzech Tower; and this, like 12 other sites (one in each region of metropolitan France), was selected in the first edition of the National Grand Prix for Heritage and Local Tourism. She is therefore the only historical monument to represent Occitaniawhile 438 associative or public projects had been proposed in the region!

For the restoration to succeed, from June 3 to 30, 2024, all audiences are invited to vote to defend and preserve this building, which presents a heritage, architectural, cultural or historical interest and contributes to the tourism dynamism of the region. If it emerges as winner of the competition, the Tour de Luzech will be awarded a check for 100,000 .
