Saumur. Flowery and welcoming moats at the castle!

After having been neglected and damaged for a long time by the work on the ramparts, the moats of the Château de Saumur have been the subject of redevelopment and beautification work. “We wanted to start thinking about this space, with Agrocampus Angers. This development is part of the 1 ecological euro, on the Château’s entrance tickets. Given that there were just over 100,000 entries, this gives a budget of 100,000 euros. These investments will make it possible to develop green spaces, for the environment or even for play areas.”explains Jackie Goulet, Mayor of Saumur. The municipality did not want these moats to become a parking area again, so it decided to build a path, plant ornamental trees and fruit trees, plant vegetation with flower meadows and install street furniture (benches and picnic tables). Between the earthworks, seeding, planting, roads and furniture, this represents a total budget of 92,800 euros. “We wanted this space to be a place to stroll, with benches, places to picnic, a sharing space”continues the mayor. For the second year of the ecological euro, the city plans to install play structures in the park between the castle and the Compagnons’ house. “Our desire is always to open the castle as much and as well as possible », concludes Jackie Goulet.
