This summer, two open-air film festivals are being organized in Strasbourg and the Eurometropolis: one by Les Films du Spectre and Speaker, the other by Le Troisième Souffle, the team behind Le Cosmos. We’ll tell you more.

Every summer, cinema is celebrated in Strasbourg and the Eurometropolis. Each in their own way, associations are bringing the 7th art to life throughout the country, taking advantage of the summer heat to organize open-air cinemas..

This year again, budding movie buffs will be able to lie down in deckchairs or under a blanket in front of 19 films broadcast in our city and in different municipalities of the Eurometropolis. The opportunity to enjoy a rich program, which will delight more than one, regardless of their place of residence.

In Strasbourg, 9 films on the program

Every Friday from July 5 to August 30Les Films du Spectre and Speaker are taking over the parks of Strasbourg. The opportunity to discover an eclectic and diverse program, between great classics of cinema and popular films.

For this 2024 edition, the two associations are located in six Strasbourg parks, in six different districts: from Hautepierre to Neudorf, via Koenigshoffen, Port du Rhin, Cronenbourg and the city center.

In the program, 9 diverse and varied films:

  • July 5 (Heyritz park – Chemin du Heyritz): OSS 117, Cairo nest of spies, Michel Hazanavicius (2006)
  • July 12 (Bergerie Park – Cronenbourg): The world of Nemo, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich (2003)
  • July 19 (Garden of Deux-Rives – Port du Rhin): North by Northwest, Alfred Hitchcock (1959) (VOST)
  • July 26 (Bergerie Park – Cronenbourg): Back to the future, Robert Zemeckis (1985)
  • August 2 (Heyritz Park – Heyritz Road): All about my mother, Pedro Almodóvar (1999) (VOST)
  • August 9 (Sports Park – Hautepierre): Yesterday, Danny Boyle (2019)
  • August 16 (Henri-Will park – Neudorf): The idiots’ dinner, Francis Weber (1998)
  • August 23 (parc Albert-Schweitzer – Koenigshoffen): Million Dollar Baby, Clint Eastwood (2005)
  • August 30 (Garden of Deux-Rives – Port du Rhin): Once upon a time there was a revolution, Sergio Leone (1971)

All early evenings will be conducive to relaxation in the various parks, with various pre-session activities. For those who like to dance, mixes from several DJs from the local scene are planned.

Finally, if ever a little thirst or a little hunger is felt, refreshment bar and food trucks will be present at each session. Don’t forget the blankets, deckchairs, picnic blankets and the inevitable mosquito repellent, and the evening will be even more beautiful!

In the Eurometropolis, 10 films around books and literature

From July 6 to September 7, Ciné Plein Air! returns throughout the Eurometropolis of StrasbourgFor this edition, the Troisième Souffle is inspired by Strasbourg, world capital of books, for the programming of “Ciné Livre”, the theme of 2024.

There will then be 10 films offered around literature, inspiring true stories and humorous adventures.. Enough to spend beautiful summer evenings, if the weather is nice.

  • July 6 (Blaesheim, campsite, rue de la Tour): The never-ending story, Wolfgang Petersen (1985); entertainment from 9:10 p.m. and screening at nightfall.
  • July 13 (Eckwersheim, Presbytery garden, Place de l’Église): Calamity, a childhood of Martha Jane Cannary, Rémi Chayé (2020); entertainment from 8:50 p.m. and screening at nightfall.
  • July 20 (Holtzheim, sports hall parking lot, rue du Stade): The jungle Book, Jon Favreau (2016); entertainment from 8:50 p.m. and screening at nightfall.

  • August 24 (Lampertheim, Sports and Cultural Center): Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton (2010); entertainment from 8:10 p.m. and screening at nightfall.
  • August 28 (Eckbolsheim, Urban nature park, rue du Niederholtz): The Incredible Fate of Harold Crick, Marc Forster (2007); entertainment from 8 p.m. and screening at nightfall.
  • August 31 (Plobsheim, football stadium, rue du Rhin): Max and the Maximons, Spike Jonze (2009); entertainment from 7:45 p.m. and screening at nightfall.
  • 7 septembre (Bischheim, parc Wodli) : Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, Alain Chabat (2002); activities from 7:45 p.m. and screening at nightfall.

Before each screening, activities such as concerts, shows and games will be offered (and it’s free). And for those who are feeling a little peckish or thirsty, a refreshment bar and light meals will be available.. Again, all you have to do is bring the deckchairs and mosquito repellent!
