Since the start of 2024, 12 people have lost their lives on the roads of Gers. In September, there were 2 deaths and 9 injuries.
12 people died, 113 bodily accidents, 148 injured, the road safety figures used since the start of the year are significantly higher than those resulting from the average of the previous 3 years. It clearly appears that accidents are both more numerous and more serious.
Each driver must exercise the greatest caution and strictly respect road safety rules during any journey, especially during the winter period and the time change when the light becomes weaker and where we are sometimes faced with bad weather conditions:
– adapt your driving to bad weather conditions by reducing your speed. Rain makes roads slippery, increases braking distances and reduces visibility. In rainy weather, grip is divided by 10.
– increase the distance that separates you from the vehicle in front of you to better anticipate risky situations.
– turn on your dipped headlights and, in case of heavy rain, the front fog lights.
Stay vigilant as soon as the environment becomes less perceptible: the visibility of vulnerable users, such as pedestrians and cyclists who are often dressed in dark clothing, decreases, especially if cyclists lack adequate signage.
Tips and reminders for pedestrians and cyclists:
– Wear light-colored clothing and use luminous or reflective devices to be clearly seen by other road users.
– Wearing a certified retroreflective vest is mandatory for all cyclists (and their passengers) traveling outside built-up areas, at night, or when visibility is insufficient.
Road safety is the concern of all users. We must adopt responsible and careful behavior on the roads to avoid tragedies and save lives.
