A recent survey published by the Association of Mayors of (AMF) questions the mental and physical health of elected officials. More than 80% of them say they are affected by their mandate and nearly 38% have considered leaving their position.

According to an AMF survey carried out among 5,000 of them, 83% of city councilors believe that their physical or mental health is affected by their mandate. In addition, 38% have already considered resigning. These figures reflect ever-increasing pressure on the shoulders of elected officials who sometimes have to manage their teams, their personal lives and overwhelming administrative procedures.

The pressure and loneliness surrounding the role of mayor of a city or town have been reinforced by recent government announcements. Five billion euros in savings are being requested from communities. Elected officials will meet Michel Barnier on Tuesday, November 19, on the occasion of the 106th congress of mayors of France.
