After 35 years of existence, serving a passion and the birds of the department, for their study and protection, the Gersois Ornithological Group takes new momentum and officially becomes the Gers Delegation of the LPO Occitanie.Created in 1989, named “La Tchourre” from the Gascon name for the Wren, the Gersois Ornithological Group is a non-profit association whose aim is the study and knowledge of birds, the protection of the most endangered species and their natural environment, as well as public awareness. The association’s objectives are to share a common passion, to improve knowledge on the distribution, biology, ecology and threats of avifauna in the Gers department and to introduce birds and nature to a wide audience. Since January 1, 2024, after 35 years of existence, the Gersois Ornithological Group has officially become the Gers delegation of the LPO Occitanie. Continuing its activities, but in a new form, the group intends to coordinate and strengthen its bird protection actions with the other delegations in the Region, and to give itself new impetus. Being networked and more numerous, being more present in the field and having more influence in studying and preserving the avifauna on both the Occitan and Gers scales, these are the motivations which have led to this evolution.
Inauguration and Territorial Conference on June 22In order to celebrate this new stage in the life of the association, an inauguration of the Gers delegation of the LPO Occitanie bringing together all the members and supporters, as well as the privileged partners, will be held on June 22 at 2 p.m., meeting room Embats in Auch. This inauguration will be extended by a friendly drink. At 2:30 p.m., the Territorial Conference will take place, the equivalent of a General Assembly.
