“It’s a relatively quiet little town. It was things that didn’t usually happen in Trois-Rivières. That’s why when I interacted with a police officer and asked him if it was a kidnapping, I was told that we weren’t in the depths of Chicago.”says Henri Provencher, the grandfather of the little girl invited on the radio.
A man watched for many months
Leads are then considered, such as a sexual crime or even a car accident. But little by little, the investigators will become interested in the profile of a businessman. DFor several years, the individual will be monitored by investigators. But nothing will allow him to be charged. The man’s name is Jonathan Bettez, owner of a red Acura car, he was seen at the scene of the child’s disappearance for several days. “There is clearly no evidence and ultimately it is as terrible for the family of Jonathan Bettez, because we have someone who is visibly marked with the seal of infamy, as it is for the family of Cédrika Provencher who is still looking for proof of a culprit”, explains Stéphane Berthomet.
Jonathan Bettez will be suspected of frequent pedophile forums. Arrested by the police, he will deny the facts. “Given the fact that there are no other leads, the police will obviously work hard to find out if Mr. Bettez is indeed their suspect. It must be said that they will put a little more effort into it. heart as necessary”.
The investigation into the death of Cédrika Provencher still open
Two years later, the suspect was cleared by the courts. In fact, no convincing evidence will be found. The judges even indicated that the methods used by the investigators bordered on legality. So, even today, the investigation into the murder of little Cédrika is still open.
“I hope that the person who did this will be forced to take responsibility for their actions. We always end up paying for the actions we commit”indicates Henri Provencher, Cédrika Provencher’s grandfather.
