As in many cemeteries, tombs are abandoned. Louvagny, near Falaise (Calvados), is no exception. In this pretty little village of 65 inhabitants, 25 graves are abandoned out of a total of 82.
Unreadable monuments
On the steles of the 25 abandoned graves in the small town of Louvagny, the monuments are illegible, no more dates, no more names. Crosses can fall and, with the wind, the risks increase.
Christian Porchonmayor, and his municipal council have launched the procedure for taking over concessions.
This concession deemed to be abandoned is the subject of a recovery procedure. Please contact the town hall
Some time ago, two people came forward at the family level. Some do what is necessary, others give up places. After a certain time, the municipal council will decide whether to resume or not. But for this, an ossuary will have to be set up in the cemetery to place the bones of the deceased.
A little history
The cemetery is located all around the Saint-Germain church, a 17th century building whose main interest is that it is flanked, to the north, by the seigneurial chapel of the Beaurepaire family.
The chapel has a paneled covering decorated with an exceptional painted decoration depicting the instruments of the Passion of Christ presented by angels.
The supporting paneling of the north wall and the clerestory are decorated with painted panels representing the evangelists and various saints. This decoration seems to have been made between 1651, the date on which François de Beaurepaire received authorization to build a chapel, and 1657, the year of the marriage of Henri de Beaurepaire and Anne de Piedoue, whose coat of arms appears on the paneling. covering.
For any further information, the town hall is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., or call 02 31 40 84 50.
