On the night of October 31, near Liverdun (Meurthe-et-Moselle), a father tried to abandon his 6-year-old son in the forest as punishment for his behavior. The incident led to serious injuries for the child, who was treated by Nancy hospital.
The shocking circumstances of the incident
According to available information, the father, aged around forty, took his son to the forest to teach him a lesson in discipline following behavior deemed inappropriate at the recreational center. He allegedly asked the child to get out of the vehicle before driving off to leave him alone. Panicked, the child grabbed onto the vehicle and was dragged several meters. The young boy now suffers from head trauma and multiple wounds to his face and hands, injuries which quickly aroused the suspicion of medical teams.
The father's contested version and the prosecution
To investigators, the father refuted the accusations of voluntary abandonment, explaining that he broke down and asked his son to get out to maneuver the vehicle, which caused the incident. However, this version did not convince Nancy's prosecutor. Prosecuted for “intentional violence by an ascendant against a minor under 15 years of age”, the father risks up to 5 years in prison and a fine of €75,000. His trial is scheduled for March 2025. In the meantime, he has been placed under judicial supervision, with no contact with his son.
