When a president of a departmental council sets fire to the hotel housing him, we can ask ourselves questions. But this Monday, June 3 in Cahors in the Lot, it was not Serge Rigal, the president of this department, who asked the question, but his hybrid company car.
Connected to a terminal, it was recharging until around 3:30 p.m. when the terminal caught fire, and hit not only the president’s car, reduced to a carcass, but also two of the four floors of the headquarters of the Departmental Council, reported La Dépêche du Midi.
The fire damaged the building’s electrical network and its black smoke invaded the first two floors. According to the general director of services Rémi Bensoussan, “around ten offices were seriously affected by the fire”. The 160 employees of the Departmental Council were evacuated.
Still areas to clean, a week later
The Department’s hotel services partially reopened on Thursday, June 6, but several employees continued to telework. A week after the fire, certain areas remain to be cleaned: offices, the assembly room or even the ventilation system, clogged by the smoke from this fire, according to our colleagues.
