The criminal court of Basse-Terre (Guadeloupe) found a man guilty of rape on Tuesday November 5, 2024. The victim is a neighbor of the accused, whose home the latter entered in the middle of the night on July 18, 2021.

At the hearing, the man admitted the facts and mentioned his addiction to alcohol, cocaine and cannabis. He was sentenced to six years in prison but not immediately incarcerated, reports Radio Caribbean International .

A distant prison

It is in fact planned that the rapist will serve his sentence in a penitentiary establishment in Drôme. For this reason, he was given a few extra days to be able to organize his trip to mainland . Since his arrest, the man has actually never been imprisoned.

He benefited from the judicial control regime and was not in pre-trial detention, note our colleagues. On the evening of the incident, the accused had taken drugs. Seven years in prison had been requested by the public prosecutor, who had also requested that a committal warrant be issued at the end of the trial.
