European Archeology Days: visit the Roman villa of Warcq!

The European Archeology Days (JEA) are back from Thursday June 13 to Saturday June 15 for a 2024 edition focused on the discovery of Villa Roman de Warcq. On the program: guided tours and fun activities.

Led by Inrap under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture in France, the European Archeology Days mobilize the entire archaeological community in mainland France and overseas for more than ten years. All the players in archeology come together to allow as many people as possible to glimpse the riches and behind the scenes of the discipline. In the Ardennes, the CD08 Archaeological Unit has chosen to discover the Roman villa of Warcq. The website of the Villa partially uncovered during the preventive excavation in 2017, is composed of a cellar and 80m2 rooms dedicated to baths. The other parts of the Villa will be visible, depending on the progress of the scheduled search, which takes place during the JEA.

Thursday June 13 and Friday June 14 are devoted exclusively to school visits. “We welcome many college students of all levels. Latin classes are very demanding! Proof of their success, reservations for school visits have been full since November,” explains Nathalie Robcis, President of the Education, Sport and Culture Commission at CD08.

For apprentice archaeologists

On Saturday June 15, the Ardennes Archaeological Unit devotes a day dedicated to the general public and in particular to families. Guided tours of the thermal part of the Villa and the observation of the latest discoveries made during the excavation scheduled for 2024, will be open to all, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Moreover, to involve the little ones, different workshops with the theme of the Olympic Games will also be there. It will be possible to reconstruct the Gallo-Roman baths in the form of puzzles, take quizzes, take part in an ancient chariot race (derived from the Little Horses game) or even spot the 7 differences in posters. .

Between Ancient Games and Modern Games, embark on a journey through time where the only rule is to have fun!
