The Pîtres Festival at the Monnaie de Paris!

Saturday June 15 and Sunday June 16, 2024
The Paris Mint

The Paris Mint, a venerable institution founded in 864 by the Edict of Pîtres of Charles the Bald, is celebrating its 1160th anniversary with a colorful celebration full of discoveries. On the weekend of June 15 and 16, young and old are invited to delve into the fascinating history of the oldest active French institution. The month of June marks the anniversary of the Paris Mint, and this year, this celebration will have a special glow. For two days, the museum opens its doors free of charge, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in a world combining history and modernity.
The party begins with a treasure hunt, an activity that will delight families. As they walk through the corridors of the museum and the courtyards of the Mint, participants are invited to open their eyes wide and pay attention to the clues scattered everywhere. This interactive game is a fun way to explore the treasures of the Paris Mint while learning.
The festivities continue with an exceptional concert by students from the 6th arrondissement conservatory, on Saturday June 15 at 4 p.m. In the Court of Honor, ensembles of clarinets and saxophones, directed respectively by Chiharu Lemarié and Loïc Moriceau, will offer an enchanting musical moment. The melodies will resonate under the historic arches, creating a magical atmosphere.
One of the most anticipated activities is undoubtedly “Paillettes d’amour”. From 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., young and old can have their makeup done and add a touch of magic to their visit. A moment of lightness and color, perfect to immortalize this festive weekend.
For those who wish to learn the art of engraving, demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend. Visitors will be able to closely observe the meticulous work of artisan engravers, heirs of centuries-old know-how. These demonstrations will offer a fascinating insight into the traditional techniques used to create exceptional pieces.
The “Make your Olympic medal” workshop is another flagship activity. Intended for children aged 7 and over, this workshop allows you to try out the gestures of the mint’s artisans and leave with your own medal. A unique experience for young visitors, who will be able to put themselves in the shoes of an Olympic champion.
On this occasion, the exhibition at the Musée de la Monnaie de Paris, “Gold, silver, bronze”, will be free for all, plunging us into the fascinating history of Olympic medals from their creation in 1896 until These days. A rare opportunity to discover these objects full of symbols and emotion.
Our advice: book your activities online or on site to be sure you can participate!
