Enough is enough for Pascal Tranquille. The district president of the Somme has taken the decision to cancel all matches scheduled for this weekend of November 9-10, 2024.
In a press release, Pascal Tranquille explains: “The too many incivility constantly increasing in frequency and intensity are unacceptable. Our practice can no longer be undermined by practitioners or pseudo-supporters who cowardly use a sporting event to do something other than sport. »
Should we wait for a tragedy?
The district president is worried and wonders: “Should we wait for a tragedy that would affect a spectator, a practitioner, a referee, an educator, a leader…? No. »
For Pascal Tranquille, the message is clear: “Stop gratuitous violence (verbal or physical) on and off the stadiums. A sports venue must remain a sanctuary where the values of sport are put into practice and nothing else. Leave your problems at the stadium gate, you will pick them up on the way out. »
“In order not to give in to this inevitability, it is necessary for a collective awareness to occur. No football this weekend. It's not too late, it's time. »
214 exclusions and 2486 warnings since September
The district president continues: “We have sent more detailed information, explaining the modalities, to the stakeholders, particularly to the clubs who will be able to disseminate it to their members. »
A third of the way through the season, the figures speak for themselves: since the restart in September, the Somme district has had 214 exclusions, 2,486 warnings and 46 incidents outside the stadium. For the period from November 1 to 3 alone, 43 exclusions and 437 warnings were counted.
