The double confrontation in the League of Nations against Israel raises questions on the security level. If it is almost certain that Belgium’s trip will not be played in Israel, the match scheduled at home could also be relocated.
On September 6, Belgium will launch its 2025 Nations League campaign against Israel at home. A match which should therefore take place at the Stade Roi Baudouin… but the circumstances are special. The war in Israel leaves doubt surrounding the organization of this meeting.
We remember: La Gantoise – Maccabi Haifa did take place in Ghent, but was held behind closed doors following a decision by the City and the authorities. And since then, the situation in the Middle East has not calmed down excessively.
When tickets for this Nations League campaign were put on sale, the Belgian Union had already sent a signal: no tickets for the first match, against Israel, had been made available to the public. “The security situation is analyzed and developments are closely evaluated. More information will be communicated later,” specified the Belgian Union.
Israel announces match potentially played in Budapest
In the Israeli press, we go further. Indeed, Sports Channel announces that the matches against France, Italy and Belgium will all be played at the Boszik Arena, in Budapest… but also that Belgium would also like to relocate its match to the Hungarian capital!
Sports Channel assures that a Belgian delegation would have informed the Israeli federation that the meeting between the Devils and the Hebrew State could not be played in Brussels for security reasons. The official decision, however, is not expected until next month.
Remember that on July 20, FIFA, during its annual congress to be held in Bangkok, will have to study the request of the Palestinian football federation, which requested, among other things, the expulsion of Israel from all international competitions . It is possible that the verdict will not come until after this date.
The reaction of the Belgian Union
Contacted by us, the Belgian Union stuck to the communication published previously, at the time of the sale of tickets for the League of Nations. With one clarification, however: “no decision” has been made.
