TORONTO, June 9, 2024 /CNW/ – Toronto Pearson Airport conducted its annual emergency drill on Saturday evening which simulated the large-scale response required in the event of an explosion in the terminal.

This year’s exercise, which took place during the night of 8 at 9 June 23 h 30 at 3 h at the terminal 1, mobilized more than 100 volunteers from surrounding communities who played passengers injured in a fictional explosion, as well as members of their families. Other stakeholders and organizations taking part in the event included Peel Regional Police, Toronto Pearson Fire and Rescue Services and Air Canada.

“At Toronto Pearson, safety is our top priority, and we are continually looking for ways to improve our response to potential airport emergencies said Khalil Lamrabet, Acting Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Toronto Pearson. “ These simulated exercises underscore our commitment to emergency preparedness and give us and our partners the opportunity to test all aspects of our joint response. Each year, we learn valuable lessons from this event to refine our protocols and procedures. »

Toronto Pearson Airport, in collaboration with numerous aviation industry partners and government agencies, hosts an annual full-scale and tabletop exercise to test protocols, procedures, communications and planning in emergency cases. A requirement imposed by Transport Canada, this exercise constitutes an important tool for verifying the emergency response measures in effect at the airport.
