If you go doesn't tell a story, it asks questions, digs into them and, by dint of digging, comes across other questions ad infinitum. This intense moment of dialectical theater questions our world through the prism of the teacher-student relationship, far from the clichés about school.

Why study today? What is the meaning of work? Is the experience transferable? How can we be sure that we are making the right choices? Nathan, a seemingly “no problem” student, decides one day to leave school for a purely lucrative business, selling sneakers on the internet. Ms. Ogier, her teacher, will do everything to dissuade her.

Four chairs and two tables, the lightness of the form gives the feeling of a constant imbalance, of a play on the edge of all the nuances of interpretation, the dead times, the suspensions, the arrhythmia. The characters evolve with the awareness that they are on sight, watched, judged, the audience symbolically representing the classroom. They thus create a dramatic tension between fiction and its representation. This show recalls the memorable No Bemecreated in 2014 by Adrien Béal, where an uneventful teenager, apparently integrated into his environment, systematically handed in blank copies without explanation. This created a break in him, in the school community, his family, his friends, with devastating effects. Nathan's step, his deviation from what is expected of him, is a grenade that awakens the spirit of revolt and the buried desires of the teacher. After an agreed beginning, the play opens up a living space outside of a reproduction of roles. We feel that something could change at any moment and in the end, although we won't reveal it, something actually changes. Kelly Rivière in the role of Mme Ogier has a unique stage presence (we remember her formidable alone on stage An Irish Storycurrently reprized at La Scala). Pierre Bidard does more than hold the shock, he literally outsmarts us, very moving in his contagious ego states. Everyone is returned to their blank page, to a promise of a better life, outside the sad shackles of boredom.

Very intelligently Kelly Rivière does not answer the questions asked, does not weigh down her remarks with sociological considerations, she opens gaps, reshuffles the cards, shifts the lines of flight. Nathan seems very invested in his project which is holding up. What would we have done in his place? When a real dialogue is established between teacher and student the relationship lasts for a very long time, can the teaching community dream of a better tribute?
