Former socialist minister Jérôme Cahuzac, convicted of tax fraud, announced Sunday evening that he would be a candidate in Lot-et-Garonne in the next legislative elections, which will be held on June 30 and July 7.

The former deputy mayor of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget under the presidency of François Hollande, will be “candidate under the center left label”, facing outgoing MP RN Annick Cousin, in the 3e constituency of the department, he declared to Agence France-Presse (AFP), confirming information from The Dispatch.

“I am not dependent and I do not depend on any party,” added the former elected official, aged 71, who has made his return to the political scene in Lot-et-Garonne since the fall by organizing several meetings public. “It is clear that I am not prohibiting myself from anything,” he declared at the end of November on France Inter, believing “to have served [s]a debt.”
