The facts date back to June 2018when a Meuse couple, in their home in Verdun, the 55-year-old man and the 51-year-old woman, welcome her nephews, aged around thirty and living in Belgium.

L'Est Républicain evokes an insult on the part of the nephews against their own mother which would have led to a succession of violence.

The spouse beaten loses his life

One of the nephews first dealt several violent blows to the woman then in his outburst of rage, he turned towards the companion in order to strike him succession of blows: punches, kicks before smashing a chair on his head several times.

The brothers then fled, leaving the spouse injured, but still conscious. The day after the events, the latter was died of the after-effects of his injuries.

According to the public prosecutor, François Pérain, the autopsy revealed that his death was due to “ a hematoma in the brain linked to one or more violent shocks to the head” .

The charges judged from November 6 to 8

But on June 4, 2019, one of the suspects was arrested in Maxéville, in the suburbs of Nancy. He was presented to an investigating judge, then indicted and placed under judicial supervision. The one named as his accomplice, suspected of having carried out the fatal blows, was also subsequently arrested and placed in pre-trial detention.

The two defendants will be judged by the Meuse departmental criminal court from November 6 to 8.They face fifteen years in prison for “violence committed in a meeting leading to death without intention of causing it”.

Unfortunately, the spouse died in 2021.
