The High Authority for Health (HAS) is in favor of reimbursement, for the general population, of implants and dental prostheses in complete or single edentulism. Currently, the placement of implants is not reimbursed for the majority of patients and remains exceptional.
The High Health Authority intends to improve “access to care” et “guarantee complete and optimal care for edentulism”. It considers that the loss of one, or even all, of the teeth, following loosening or infections, constitutes “a functional, aesthetic and social disability with health consequences”such as nutritional deficiencies, for example.
“The number of edentulous people is increasing, particularly due to the increase in life expectancy”, explains the HAS in a press release. She recalls that “According to the World Health Organization, approximately 30% of the world's population will be completely edentulous by 2030.” If there are several therapeutic solutions for tooth replacement today, one of the most used is implant-prosthetic care. “with nearly a million dental implants placed in France in 2023”.
