On June 9, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., you will go to the polls in your municipality to vote at the regional, federal and European level. A choice which, once validated, will go through the counting box. The objective: to count the votes that the different candidates and lists received. But how do we ultimately proceed to carry out this counting and when will we know the different results?
A very specific process
You should know that the process is very precise. The votes take place by canton, the presidents of voting and counting stations are designated by the different presidents of each canton. After each vote, the recounters are then responsible for counting either the regional, federal or European votes. Once finished, the counts from each voting location are sent to the cantonal offices for the second phase of the process. They must list the votes from each polling station to have a general result for the canton for which they are responsible.
Once this step is completed, the main offices of the cantons send electronically a detailed result (with the number of ballots cast, the number of blank and invalid ballots as well as the electoral figure and the nominal votes of each list) to the Minister of the Interior. It is then up to the Federal Interior Public Service to communicate the results on its website.

Results expected in the evening
As for the arrival of the results, they arrive the same evening and therefore we can expect to have the different outcomes on Sunday June 9 during the evening if all goes well. This can of course vary since in 2019, a computer problem during the transmission of results somewhat disrupted communication. Hopefully that won’t be the case this year.
