After an exhilarating WTT Champions in Montpellier, marked by the victory of Félix Lebrun and a few days from the WTT Champions in Frankfurt, the PRO championship returned in force with several very good posters, new recruits and a competitiveness which continues to increase these lately. A look back at a lively week.
The Nîmes-Montpellier Alliance is the big favorite for the national crown, this was confirmed last week. Without Félix and Alexis Lebrun, who were rested, Antoine Hachard took on the role of leader by winning his two matches against Chen Tianyuan and Wang Yang, leading Esteban Dorr and Grégoire Jean in his wake to a surprise victory. Three days later, in Nîmes, the Lebrun brothers were back for the clash against Hennebont. On cloud nine at the moment, the two blonde heads in turn defeated Lim Jonghoon, bronze medalist in mixed doubles in Paris, then Omar Assar, 19th player in the world. The Héraultais continue their flawless performance and lead the championship. On the Breton side, the recent arrivals of Yuan Licen and Zhou Qihao, two referenced Chinese players, should allow them to regain color after a mixed start to the season.
Speaking of recruits from Asia, Jura-Morez presented, still against Hennebont, its main reinforcement of the season, Sun Wen. Like Alexis and Félix Lebrun, the Chinese player won his two points by defeating Lim Jonghoon and Omar Assar, a successful baptism of fire and a new victory for the Franche-Comté club. A few days later, the same men confirmed by easily winning in Rouen (3-1). With Xiang Peng, Quadri Aruna and Sun Wen in his ranks, Jura-Morez positions himself as one of the favorites for overall victory this year.
If a large majority of the teams in the championship have already played several matches, the Thorigné-Fouillard club began its season last week with two matches in four days. Led by the whimsical Noshad Alamiyan, undefeated this season, the Bretons initially largely dominated Roanne (3-0), before winning in Chartres three days later after an indecisive clash (3- 2).
