The Movement of Engaged Couriers association is back in action to defend the rights of platform delivery workers. The latter, particularly faced with increasingly deteriorating fares, are considering going on strike.
“The account is still not there. Our salary conditions have deteriorated even further, as have our incomes. We're really in trouble. So, the time has come to mobilize again“, warns Jason Legrux, behind the creation of the Mouvement des couriersengages association, created in June 2023.
This creation, then the organization of several gatherings in November of the same year, including several on the Place de la Comédie, earned him the suspension of his account on Uber eats, it is certain. Whatever. At the request of his former colleagues, he has just reactivated the association to prepare the response of platform delivery workers, whatever their origin.
Have decent working and income conditions
Fed up is general among all the couriers who are no longer able to get even a minimum wage while they work tirelessly, over completely unconventional hours, in all circumstances. time and all seasons.
The demands are always the same, due to a lack of commitments made by the platforms: better legal coverage; decent insurance with better social benefits to cover costs in the event of an accident; income taking into account waiting times; but also an increase in the price of shopping.
“The price of the trip has continued to plummet since last year, on all Uber Eats platforms, such as Deliveroo, Stuart… As for our request in 2023 for the establishment of a minimum income guaranteed at €11 per hour, we have never seen the price. So, we are going to put this claim back on the table. We won't give up“, explains Jason Legrux.
Ready to strike
An emergency meeting was to be organized this Thursday in Béziers to define future actions. Montpellier should follow. “Everyone is very determined and ready to strike“, he indicates. So in anticipation of the suspension of their activity, a pot was launched on Leetchi, which will serve as a strike fund to help platform delivery workers during their actions.
