The Pays de la Chamber of Trades and Crafts will honor ten Loire artisans – two per department – during the twelfth edition of the Made in fair, which will be held from November 8 to 11, 2024 at Porte de . in . Among them, Béatrice Ruel, 55 years old and a trained seamstress, who manages the young company in Longuenée-en-Anjou “Modulance, Fashion & Accessories”.

What was your journey until creating your business?

Béatrice Ruel: “After my BEP couture in , I went to follow haute couture training in Mayenne. After which, a company selected me following three internships, where I learned all the tricks of luxury ready-to-wear (Dior and Chanel), among others.

“I stayed in this company for 14 years, with the idea of then striking out on my own. So I opened my small tailor-made sewing workshop in , rue du Mail, called Léame Création. It lasted 20 years! But I felt tired, even to the point of wanting to change careers. »

How did you get the idea to create Modulance?

“During a trip in 2018, I picked up a piece of fabric while visiting the cathedral in Valletta, Malta, where my daughter was studying. This fabric was extremely important for Modulance, my clothing brand, registered in July 2022, as well as its concept. It is innovative because of the way I cut my fabric: I have very little material waste left. Secondly, I realized that my clothes follow the evolution of each body type. That is to say, my clients can lose or gain weight, they will not have to buy an entire wardrobe. »

How were you selected for this show and what do you expect in return?

“I was selected through word of mouth. The opportunity was so good, it will allow me to make my concept and its eco-responsible approach known and, I hope, open doors for me on a larger scale than a local clientele. »

And for the future, do you have any plans?

“I want to create small series so that they can be distributed in high-end boutiques, while continuing to create unique models. I seek to move forward differently than “fast fashion”, to raise awareness of climate issues in relation to the textile industry, one of the most polluting sectors in the world. »
