What developments will there be for these towns in Côtes-d’Armor crossed by departmental roads?

Moustéru, on the Guingamp-Carhaix axis, is one of these municipalities crossed by a departmental road. Where speed is sometimes accessible. To break it, adjustments are desired by elected officials. But not everything is permitted, far from it.

Three questions to Laurent Rimbault, head of the road maintenance and operation department at the Côtes-d'Armor departmental service

Are there different types of departmental roads?

Yes, there are four types of road. This was validated by a road master plan. We have the most important roads, the links of regional interest, around 340 km, then the links of departmental interest, a little over 800 km, the inter-municipal service, around 850 km and, finally, 2,600 km of inter-town service. Classification is often linked to traffic. The issues are not the same.

In Moustéru, in addition to being of regional interest, the road is classified as major traffic by the State. In other words, a route which allows traffic relief of national importance, on which we can see military convoys, exceptional convoys. It's not neutral.

What impact does this have on possible arrangements?

Inter-municipal or inter-town services, quite a few arrangements are possible. And the higher we go, the more demanding or restrictive we are. Moustéru, on a link of regional interest and heavy traffic, few developments are authorized for reasons of preserving fluidity.

No raised plate, for reasons of maintaining fluidity. A platform had been authorized at one of the town entrances because it was opposite a school. It's different on the other side where there is, in addition, a slope and a curve.

What margin is left?

We can constrain the speed through perception by playing on the environment. We can play with the materials of the roadway, the paving stones, the different colored coatings…

In Kerien and Bourbriac for example, it’s different. The RD8 is a link of departmental interest. The installation of baffles or raised platforms is possible provided that the defined geometric characteristics are retained. The idea, despite everything, is not to multiply them on a short section. You have to find the right balance. It's case by case.
