It is a solution that will allow many children to finally heal fromenuresisnocturnal and uncontrolled bedwetting from which 6% of little boys and girls in the world suffer.
To allow children to get rid of it, Timothy Péréraa 42-year-old resident and entrepreneur from Oise, invented a medical device intended to correct involuntary bedwetting.
Smart underwear and fun play
His program entitled “Sleepee by Tim” is composed of a smart underwear equipped with an alarm without any waves, and a card game fun intended to “keep the child motivated”. “My goal is to change the life trajectory of our users,” says this hospital director and former head of child psychiatry in the south-east of Oise.
“Enuresis appears from the age of 5 or 6. If a child is left untreated, he or she will developanxietya loss of esteem of himself and sleep disorders. His psychological plan will be disrupted,” explains the specialist.
Until then, the only solutions that were proposed were either to do nothing and wait for spontaneous resorption, or to prescribe medications that cause side effects (…). The device we have developed avoids all of this and helps work on good mental health.
An alarm that wakes the child upon contact with urine
These smart underwear, to put on before going to sleep, are made up of sensing fibers urine and a small device that rings and vibrates in contact with him.
As soon as the underwear detects the presence of urine, a small box will emit a vibration on his hip which will wake him up, to make him understand that he must quickly go to the toilet.
Why does a child wet the bed?
According to Timothy Péréra, several causes can explain the manifestation of enuresis in a child. “It can firstly be hereditary, some parents don’t talk about it because they are ashamed but they should because it can reassure the child.”
“It can also be a delay in learning reflexes if the child has worn diapers for too long.” But it can also be caused by psychological disorders, or accompany another pathology such as diabetes.
For a child to no longer be a victim of bedwetting, he must “learn a wake-up reflex when his bladder is full,” Timothy develops. “The second effect that we will seek to create is the reduction in diuresis, the production of urine during the night that we all have, but which is not automatic in certain children.”
“90% of children treated in 3 months”
In addition to wearing this underwear, the child will be followed by a game “in which he will be the hero”. Each night, he can stick phosphorescent stars on a poster, which also serves as a calendar, in order to create illuminated constellations. “The idea is above all to build confidence. We never talk about bedwetting in this game.”
A game that will also help him learn to read and that parents can return to society as soon as their child is cured.
From the start, we support families via telephone exchanges. We sell a pack of three underwear equipped with the alarm system and we rent the game which we collect when the child has become clean. Our idea is to then seek reimbursement from Health Insurance, because this is something that is not currently covered.
His almost magical solution allows “90% of children to be treated within 3 months”.
“In our usage trial, 25% of children of all ages were even treated in 15 days with just the underwear,” adds the entrepreneur. “And for customers who also had the game, we are on the same rates.”
However, it can happen that children get rid of enuresis and then relapse. “Generally, they are punctual,” emphasizes Timothy. “The child must also have good hydrationthat he learns to drink a little throughout the day so that he no longer needs to drink at 6 p.m.
