Preserving heritage requires constantly renewed attention. END September 2024the City of Narbonne, in Aude, has undertaken a restoration site at the back of the Archbishops' Palace.
Weakened merlons
” Despite precautionary measures taken a few years ago […] certain merlons on the west facade are weakened,” communicates the municipality.
The merlon is “an upper part of the walls of the fortification between the battlements”, informs the municipality.
€60,000 invested
To carry out this work, the municipality of Narbonne invested nearly 60 000 € TTC. The Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Drac) participated in the effort to the tune of 25 000 €.

The stones will be reinforced
And to conclude: “In order to guarantee their stability over time, they are reinforced by the fixation of stainless steel studs. The facade is also repointed and cleaned where necessary. »
