Normally, traffic is fluid in the middle of the night. But many motorists found themselves stuck for hours on theA8 motorwaywithout understanding anything.
The reason? A accident occurred between three light vehicles this Sunday around 1:30 a.m. between La Trinité and La Turbie, towards Aix-en-Provence.
Five injured, one serious
When the firefighters arrived, two cars were in feu.
The final report shows four lightly injured: the 27-year-old driver of the first vehicle, the two 19-year-old passengers of the second and the 43-year-old driver of the third.
They were transported to the Pasteur hospital or the Saint-Georges clinic, in Nice.
A fifth person was seriously injured. This is the driver of the second vehicle, aged 18. He was also evacuated to Pasteur hospital.
A major rescue system was deployed, with 11 engines and 34 firefighters.
Huge traffic jam lasting several hours
To enable the proper intervention of emergency services, the A8 motorway was closed from 1:30 a.m. towards Aix-en-Provence.
Motorists had to exit at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (n°58) and entry was prohibited at La Turbie (n°57) and Monaco (n°56).
Dozens of vehicles were found completely blockednotably at the La Turbie tollbooth, unable to move forward or backward.
The A8 motorway has not been reopened only at 4:10 a.m.almost three hours later.
