Indigenous Peoples Month is an opportunity to learn, reflect and celebrate the diversity of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples of Toronto and across Turtle Island!

The festivities will begin with the Na-Me-Res Pow Wow and Indigenous Arts Festival, a free festival that celebrates traditional and contemporary music, dance, craft and culinary experiences of the Indigenous people of Turtle Island.

The festival will take place on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16 at Garrison Commons, outside of Fort York National Historic Site (250 Fort York Boulevard).

The Sunrise Ceremony will take place the following week, on Friday June 21, at Nathan Phillip Square.

All Torontonians are invited to attend this sacred ceremony starting at 5:30 a.m.

The ceremony involves sending prayers and giving thanks for all creation and Mino Baamodziwin (The Beautiful Life).

I encourage Torontonians to learn about Indigenous history in their own neighborhoods and join me in celebrating Indigenous arts and culture by attending events like the Na-Me-Res Powwow and the Indigenous Arts Festival . said Mayor Olivia Chow.
