To celebrate its resumption, since November 1, of the operation of the Montenvers train, also called the Mer de Glace train, the Haute-Savoie department is offering free tickets until November 3, reports France 3 Auvergne -Rhône-Alpes. For seventy years, it was managed by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc in the form of a public service delegation (DSP). In November, it is normally under maintenance.
No online reservation
“This year, due to this exceptional situation and taking into account the All Saints' Day holidays ending on Sunday, the train will operate on November 1, 2 and 3, 2024. Its access will be free by decision of the board of directors within the limit of places available,” Martial Saddier, president of the Haute-Savoie departmental council, told France 3.
The Mer de Glace site is accessible from the town center of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, at almost 2,000 meters above sea level. To take advantage of it, you have to go there. No online reservations are possible. The first train departure is at 8:30 a.m., then every 20 minutes. The last departure is at 3 p.m.
The site will then be closed until November 29, 2024.
