Recently retired from the field, Céline Dumerc has seven French championship titles to her name, a European coronation with Les Bleues in 2009 and an Olympic silver medal at the London Games in 2012. With 262 caps, she holds the record selections for the French basketball team, men and women combined.

“We are delighted”

It was the City of Coulounieix-Chamiers which requested it. “She accepted and we are delighted,” declared the mayor, Thierry Cipierre. The arrival of this basketball star in Coulounieix-Chamiers should attract some of his Périgord fans on November 12, at the Céline-Dumerc gymnasium.

The inauguration will take place at 6 p.m. Beforehand, from 5 p.m., the athlete will meet the women of the basketball section of the ASPTT Grand Périgueux (from U7 to RF3).

The name of the basketball player came out of a vote proposed to the inhabitants of Coulounieix-Chamiers. “We had two conditions: that it be a woman and a basketball player, since this gymnasium will be mainly dedicated to this sport,” continues the chief magistrate.

This Périgord commune has made a habit of putting women in the spotlight on its public buildings. “When you see the number of structures and streets that bear the names of men in … Here, we said to ourselves that we had to make up for lost time,” explains Thierry Cipierre.
