In La Manche, sports sessions to take care of the beneficiaries of the Food Bank

The Manche Food Bank in conjunction with the Regional Health Agency (ARS) is at the origin of the Adapted Physical Activities project. This is part of the support actions that we offer to some of our branches deployed in the department explains Jill Leboucher, coordinator at the Food Bank.

The canton of Bréhal was chosen for sporting activities: The ARS finances around ten sessions which are provided by a professional; each beneficiary of food aid can participate and, at the end of the cycle, benefit from an envelope of €50 allowing them to partly finance membership in a sports association in their city.

Resume sporting activity and break isolation

This approach, initiated by the ARS, is a response to an observation: Recipients of food aid often abandon sporting activities due to lack of financial means. Furthermore, for some, these sessions are also a way to break isolation.

Jill Leboucher discusses other actions organized by the Food Bank as part of the support actions: Our Good gestures, good food workshops, for example, help beneficiaries to optimize their food budget and to cook in energy-saving mode.

“I adapt to everyone’s possibilities”

It is Jérémie Brunet, departmental manager of the Siel bleu association and teacher in adapted physical activities, who leads the sessions: For an hour and a quarter per week, I train participants to practice exercises that they can then reproduce at home, independently. he indicates. The goal is for everyone to gain or regain a taste for physical activity.

These sessions are also part of an inclusion approach: People with disabilities or physical difficulties of any nature can participate. I adapt to everyone's possibilities.
