The rumor has been spreading for several weeks in the Dordogne valley: the wolf is perhaps at the gates of the Black Périgord. Since mid-May, the Lot prefecture has recorded seven predations, in Loubressac, Saint-Sozy, Gréalou, Saint-Chels, Marcilhac-sur-Célé, Sérignac and Gréalou. Sarladais breeders are called to be vigilant.

“To date, the traces observed on the animals do not allow us to rule out the intervention of a wolf, nor to confirm it”, indicates the Lot prefecture to France Bleu Périgord. But if it really is him, Saint-Sozy is less than 20 km from the border with Dordogne.

The president of the CrDA Périgord Noir – a local association of farmers linked to the Dordogne Chamber of Agriculture – sent an email to all its members to call on them to be vigilant. He asks them to report possible suspicious attacks.

Last wolf identified in 2015

The wolf is getting closer: last summer, a she-wolf was killed after several herd attacks in the Causses du Quercy. The vice-president of the Dordogne Chamber of Agriculture is also convinced that the animal passes into Dordogne.

There have been several reports in recent years, but none have allowed us to say with certainty that it was indeed the wolf. The last time a wolf was formally identified in Dordogne, it was in 2015, in Saint-Léon-sur-L’Isle.
