What changes this Friday, November 1, 2024: minimum wage, winter break, gas, pensions and neonatal screening
At the dawn of November, several changes will come into force this Friday, impacting wages, public services and health.
Here is an overview of these new measures:
Revaluation of the SMIC
The interprofessional minimum wage for growth (SMIC) will be increased by 2%, bringing the monthly net minimum wage to around 1,426 euros. This anticipated increase responds to the effects of inflation, pending the annual adjustment in January 2025.
Start of Winter Break
The winter break, suspending rental evictions, will begin on November 1 and will last until March 31, 2025. This protection mainly concerns tenants in arrears, although certain exceptions apply, particularly in the event of rehousing for tenants. occupants or illegal occupation of housing.
Increase in supplementary pensions
Supplementary pensions for former private sector employees will benefit from an increase of 1.6% from this Friday. For a pension of 800 euros, this revaluation represents around 12.80 euros, an increase which remains slightly below expected inflation (1.8%).
Drop in gas prices
Good news for households: the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) forecasts a reduction of 1.18% on gas. From November 1, the gas heating rate is expected to reach 0.10932 euros per kWh, while gas used for cooking and hot water will be billed at 0.13830 euros per kWh, all taxes included.
Expansion of newborn screening for sickle cell disease
From November 1, all newborns in France will be screened for sickle cell disease. This hereditary blood disease, the main cause of stroke in children, was until now screened in a targeted manner, depending on the origin of the parents, with the exception of overseas regions where this screening is generalized. . From now on, it will be carried out free of charge for all newborns, between two and three days after birth.
