Around fifteen firefighters were dispatched to the headquarters of the Lot departmental council, located in the Regourd district of Cahors, in the middle of the afternoon, Monday June 3, 2024. The cause was a fire which broke out in the parking lot of the building. It was in fact the hybrid car of the President of the Department, Serge Rigal, which caught fire. The vehicle was connected to a charging station at the time of the disaster, specifies The Dispatch .

A vehicle completely destroyed

Firefighters from the Cahors and Lalbenque (Lot) barracks managed to control the flames. The elected official’s car was completely destroyed by the fire, which also “caused superficial damage to the building”, indicated the local authority in a press release relayed by our colleagues. However, the smoke emanations made it necessary to evacuate the departmental council.

One hundred and sixty agents had to leave the premises before returning to collect their personal belongings. France 3 Occitanie specifies that it was planned that civil servants would then work from home. The Department welcomed the rapid response of the emergency services, which were deployed “within ten minutes”. The first elements collected show that the fire could have been caused by overheating.
