Tour de France: In Villeneuve-sur-Lot, the hotel sector is in turmoil

At the end of June, the best cyclists on the planet will embark on the 111th edition of the Tour de France, starting from Florence. And in a little over a month, the 12th stage of the said race will conclude on Avenue d’Agen in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. And the City does not want to miss out on this event of a lifetime. Road repairs, programming of events on D-Day… the municipality wants to take advantage of this extraordinary exhibition to spread the word about its city well beyond the department, and to sustain a certain tourist influx in the long term. But to welcome all these beautiful people next month, and possibly tourists in the years to come, Villeneuve needs a quality hotel offering. Many months ago, ASO (Amaury Sport Organisation), the Tour organizing company, reserved beds to accommodate all the technical teams on July 11, making 377 beds in total. With the big day fast approaching, the opportunity to take a tour of some of the establishments involved in town presents itself. “There is a real need to put the emphasis back on our hotel establishments which are not necessarily part of large groups. These are often very good surprises with many advantages”, assumes Christophe Martin, director of the Villeneuve-Vallée du Lot Tourist Office, when touring the hotels concerned. So here are four of them.

The Residence Hotel

Located on the left bank at 17 avenue Lazare Carnot, the La Résidence hotel and its two stars has been anchored in the Bastide since 1961, with Eric Nuevo at the helm since 2012. This hotel, with its unmistakable colorful facade, is distinguished by the obtaining different labels. Moreover, the La Résidence hotel is the only establishment in the city center to be labeled “Accueil Vélo”, “Relais Motards” and “Hébergement Pêche”. Eric Nuevo had to complete very precise specifications in order to obtain these distinctions which allow it to reach a niche clientele. Here, a dozen equipped rooms are available, for a total of 39 beds. And of course, here, everything is already in place for the Tour de France.

The Glacier Hotel

Although it is also known for its restaurant offering, in the city center of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Le Glacier is also a three-star hotel establishment a stone’s throw from the Paris Tower. Completely renovated in 2021 and owned by Philippe Molinier since the same date, Le Glacier stands out thanks to the 100 place settings it prepares for each service. Also, inside, it is distinguished by its large representations of the city which decorate walls, doors and other rooms. With nine rooms for 19 beds, Le Glacier is a name to remember in the area.

The Hotel Les Remparts

Awarded two stars, the Les Remparts hotel, located at 1 rue Etienne Marcel, has been owned by Christophe Becart since 2013. Completely renovated in 2019, this hotel is ideally located a stone’s throw from the Cale de la Marine and its summer restaurateurs. With 9 rooms equipped for 24 beds, Les Remparts will also play a leading role in welcoming the technical teams of the Tour de France.

The Hotel les Platanes

A few steps from its counterpart at Les Remparts, the Les Platanes hotel has been operating since 2022 under the management of Nicolas Vidroc and Anaïs Cottin. Since their arrival, they have made numerous changes to the building located at 40 boulevard de la Marine: new furniture, new bedding and even new TV equipment. It also stands out by obtaining the “Tourism & Handicap” brand. This state mark rewards professionals who provide a guarantee of efficient reception adapted to the essential needs of people with disabilities. 38 beds are available within the Hôtel les Platanes. Another gem in the heart of the city.
