What is Europe for in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence?

This Sunday, June 9, French citizens will be called to the polls to choose those who will represent them in the European Parliament, in a one-round direct universal suffrage ballot. But what is the impact of the European Union in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence? What purpose will Europe have served in this rural territory? In particular to financially support many projects… more than 7,000 in around ten years! European funds deployed through the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, which has the role of acting as interfaces between the different programs and the deployment of their millions of euros. Overview.

Projects funded by the European Union between 2014 and 2020

In the department, 27 Latin Alps Cross-border Cooperation (Alcotra) and Alpine Space projects were subsidized to the tune of 7.2 million euros. As part of the European Regional Development Fund – European Social Fund (ERDF-ESF) and the Alpine Massif, 58 projects have benefited from more than 14 million euros in European funding. Among them, for example, the development of the threshold of the Grand Pont de la Bléone (1.7 million euros); the creation of a greenway between Forcalquier and Mane (nearly 1.5 million euros); the digital transformation of public colleges (nearly 1.7 million euros); the creation of a Country Products House in Castellane (nearly 400,000 euros), or the ecotourism development project for the Escale reservoir (more than 1.2 million euros).

Actions carried out as part of the 2021-2027 programming of structural funds

In terms of territorial cooperation, the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence is eligible for the Interreg Alcotra 2021-2027 cross-border European cooperation program. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region supports public and private operators in developing their applications and monitoring their implementation.
