– Men’s choirs put up resistance

They are said to be in decline and lacking succession, but also representative of a bygone patriarchal universe. However, male choirs still resist in the canton of Vaud. Once omnipresent, they today represent a small part (22/64) of the members of the Société cantonale des chanters vaudois (SCCV). However, its president, Edwige Clot, does not want to be alarmist: “In a choral evening, when the men sing, the audience always says: it’s still really beautiful! So, since Covid, some ensembles have certainly disappeared and choirs have lost members, but the numbers have remained rather stable, which does not necessarily mean that they have become younger.
