A week after the torrential rain disaster, Météo announces a new Cévennes episode from Thursday October 24, 2024.

Larger accumulations in the south Massif Central

According to Météo France, this Friday, October 25, the dynamism of the Atlantic disturbance is approaching France and a rainy disturbance is sweeping most regions from west to east.

The accumulations are greater from the southern Massif Central to the Lower Rhône Valley and particularly in the Cévennes.

Between Thursday and Sunday, it could fall between 40 to 70 mm in Auvergne and Puy-de-Dôme and 30 to 60 mm of rain on the .

A classic episode on waterlogged soils

“This rainy episode promises to be relatively classic and incomparably less strong and less widespread than that of last week,” analyzes La Chaîne Météo.

“Unfortunately, if only half of the previous episode were to fall in water, it would be enough to cause the rivers to overflow and cause flooding,” explains Extrême Météo.

The soils are waterlogged and debris (branches) can still clog the beds of certain torrents following previous floods, and hinder the flow of rainwater.
