For several years, the inhabitants of the villages located in the mountain ranges have the obligation to apply the mountain law.

The latter requires “equipment suitable for driving in winter is deployed. Between November 1 and March 31, it is obligatory to equip your vehicle with winter tires or to have snow chains or socks, in certain municipalities in the mountainous areas. »

For Haute-Savoie, all municipalities are concerned.

Avoid blockages

The reason for putting this law in place is twofold. Firstly, the objective is obviously to ensure security. This is why it concerns all four-wheeled vehicles.

The second is not to block the lanes. ““It is also a question of avoiding blocked situations in mountainous regions, when unequipped vehicles find themselves across tracks, unable to free themselves, immobilizing an entire axis of traffic,” specifies the prefecture of Savoie, which applies the same rules as in Haute-Savoie.
