Shows, concerts, workshops, demonstrations, Jams, Block parties and Battles with free access take place in fifteen municipalities in the department during Urban Cultures Week, from Tuesday May 28 to Sunday June 2. From street art to freestyle football, breakdancing and beatboxing, young people and families will explore these practices now adopted by a large part of young people.

Haute-Garonne comes alive to the rhythm of rap and breakdancing for a few days, for the fifth edition of Urban Cultures Week, from Tuesday May 28 to Sunday June 2. A varied and free program, aimed at young people and families, is offered in Toulouse and in fourteen other municipalities in the department, some of which are in rural areas.

Fifteen events for the general public are offered, including the passage of a “hip-hop caravan” on Wednesday in Léguevin, a breakdance show on Thursday evening in Toulouse, an urban dance battle on Sunday in Martres-Tolosane and a “block party” on Sunday. afternoon in Toulouse. Many initiations are offered, whether in dance, graffiti or BMX. The events will highlight Haut-Garonne actors and projects.

“Enthusiasm for urban cultures”

The week, which mobilizes 26 artistic structures, highlights the diversity of urban cultures. A way to recognize the value and quality of these practices, widely adopted by young people. “Rap is the most listened to musical genre among 15-24 year olds. This reflects a craze for urban cultures, in which the departmental council wants to participate,” supports Sébastien Vincini, president of the Departmental Council.

Some young people are involved in the organization of the festival, as students of breakdance or visual arts classes. Workshops, exhibitions or performances are also organized for targeted audiences, in educational and medical social establishments or in youth and cultural centers.
