The morning, Wednesday October 9, 2024doctoral student Odran Guilbert was able to exchange with 4th grade students from Houlme College in Briouze (Orne). In the afternoon, it was mainly in front of education professionals that he revealed his program.

After a general presentation on psychology, particularly cognitive psychology, Odran Guibert got to the heart of the matter by explaining the theme and program of his thesis on educational inclusion.

A participatory research protocol

The goal of his research is to help each student discover how he functions in learning and to give it tools to improve its quality and autonomy. Odran Guibert is convinced that inclusion comes through autonomy.

There is a protocol of participatory research, which includes a team of researchers, specialized teachers and district educational advisors. It is supported by the Canopé network (educational creation and support network).

The research will be carried out from one school, three CP classes, including 15 students selected randomly. There will be at least one EBEP student (student with special educational needs) in each class.

“Promote the use of tools to be better learners”

The researcher will provide the teams with tools, whether visual, auditory or tactile, in order toexperiment and evaluate learning processes. Weekly sessions and evaluations will be done by teachers.

This protocol will be validated by all the protagonists, including the children. The study begins throughout this school year with 15 weeks of distributed programs.

Odran Guilbert is supervised by Céline Lanoë, lecturer, and Sandrine Rossi, thesis director and university professor in cognitive and educational psychology in .

“You present us with tools to help students to improve their skills? But how is it inclusive? », questions Virginie Cocault, ULIS coordinator (localized unit for educational inclusion).

Promoting the use of tools to be better learners makes it possible to include students in difficulty by making them more independent.

Odran Guilbert, doctoral student

Aline Letertre, director of the Notre-Dame de Briouze school, confirms the usefulness and use of this process metacognitive. “From the age of 3, with our students, we ask the person who succeeds in a task to explain their train of thought to others. This is not always obvious, even for very good students. We’ve been using these tools for 25 years.”

Odran Guilbert welcomes this. “So much the better if there are a lot of staff already trained. However, with the university, we have identified requests training”.

It was also following an offer for a thesis, with learning as a theme, that he applied to the University of Caen. “It’s necessary, because we have more and more EBEPs with difficulties learning in our schools,” confides Aline Letertre.
